We’re taking security to a higher level. The protection of your financial information and the security of your online transactions are very important to us.  To make your Home Banking experience safer and more secure we will be adding a higher level of security to the login process.  We expect to implement these new features before December 31, 2006.

I can see my User ID prompt, but what happened to my password prompt? The Password box will appear after you enter your User ID at the login screen. This is a small change we’ve applied to enhance security. Your User ID and your Password have not changed. However, you will need to activate the new Home Banking login security feature (PassMark) before you can proceed.

Why is Hawaii State FCU making these changes? With an Internet scam called "phishing" fraudsters attempt to trick people into giving up their confidential information such as passwords and account numbers by creating fake websites that look like legitimate websites.  These fake pages often look identical to the real thing, so it can be difficult to tell if you are on the real or fake site.

To help combat the increasing threat of phishers and the damage that they can do to our members’ finances, Hawaii State FCU is introducing a new Home Banking security login feature called PassMark.  With PassMark, you can create a secret image and text phrase known only to you and the credit union.  Then, every time you want to log into Home Banking, just look for your secret PassMark.  If it's not there, you know you are not on the secured Hawaii State FCU Home Banking website.

PassMark is FREE, and you won’t need any additional hardware or software to use it. Enrolling is easy and it will only take a few minutes of your time.  All current and new Home Banking users will need to go through the one-time enrollment process.

How to get started The first time you log into your Home Banking account after December 27, 2006, you will be prompted to enroll into PassMark.  Your Home Banking User ID and Password will not change, and the actual one-time enrollment will only take a few minutes of your time.  First, type in your User ID at the login screen and press "login."  Then, on the next screen, enter your Password.  Enrolling into PassMark will consist of three easy steps:

  1. You will select a picture (called a PassMark image) from a library of images; the image will be displayed to you on your future Home Banking logins.  The image is known only to you and the credit union.
  2. You will enter a text phrase (called a PassPhrase) that will be displayed along with your PassMark image when you log in.  The text phrase is known only to you and the credit union.
  3. You will select three Challenge Questions and provide the answers to the questions.
Logging into your Home Banking account after you enroll After you enroll, the next time you log into your Home Banking account we’ll show you the PassMark image and text phrase that you selected.  If the image and phrase shown to you are correct, you’ll continue with the login process and enter your Home Banking password.  This is your assurance that your are logging into Hawaii State FCU’s official online banking website, since no one else, other than you and the credit union, knows your image and text phrase.

What is the purpose of Challenge Questions? Challenge Questions will only be displayed if you log into your Home Banking account form a computer different from the one you used during the enrollment.  If we do not recognize the computer, the Challenge Questions will help identify you as an authorized user.  This is another layer of security designed to protect your online account from unauthorized access if your account information is stolen.  You will have the opportunity to "register" the computers you regularly use to access your online account.  Once you have successfully answered the Challenge Questions, we’ll show you your PassMark, and if correct, you may proceed to log in.
